HARARE City Council has launched an operation to combat illegal public transport operators and “parking barons” to bring order to the streets and ease the daily frustrations faced by motorists and pedestrians.
The operation aims to ensure that all stakeholders involved in the transportation sector comply and cooperate with the enforcement blitz to restore order and make movement around the city smooth and safe.
The council urged all commuter omnibus operators to update their payments promptly to avoid inconvenience and impounding.
“Municipal police clamped and impounded more than 50 illegally parked cars, especially in the notorious areas around Angwa Street and Nelson Mandela Street.
“The parking barons, who illegally collect money from motorists were caught unaware when the municipal police started the operation.
“We urge all commuter omnibus operators to act responsibly and update their payments. By doing so, they contribute to the overall improvement of Harare’s transport system,” said the council in a statement.
