The council’s treasurer, Mr Tsepang Dube, said the auctions would be held in Tshitulipasi, Tshaswingo, Makakavhule, Lutumba, Zezani and Msane areas.
“We intend to conduct a public auction of 77 stray cattle, 24 donkeys and four goats between 13 March and 17 March. As council we are mandated to sell such animals if they are not claimed within three months. However, the livestock have been kept for more than a year and we have therefore decided to dispose of them.
“We first place an advertisement in the local newspaper at least 14 days before the actual day of the auction and if the owner identified his or her animals on the day of the auction and they supply proof, they will be given those animals,” he said.
According to the law, stray animals belong to the State.
Mr Dube urged farmers with stray animals to attend the public auction failure of which the animals would be claimed thereafter.
The stray animals are kept in various homesteads in the affected areas.
