HARARE City Council say they are in a race against time to repair Gwanzura whose precast wall collapsed during the 21st February Movement Gala 2014 celebrations over the weekend. Several panels of the precast wall at the stadium need emergency attention before the Premier Soccer League season resumes next month.
The security wall collapsed as thousands of music fans tried to force their way into the stadium for the musical show.
Harare City Council spokesperson, Leslie Gwindi, said the stadium will undergo routine upgrades.
“We are going to look into the issue and make sure that the stadium is back to its standards,” said Gwindi.
“The routine upgrades will help and we will make sure the lawn is back to its usual state.”
Premiership newcomers ZPC Kariba, whose home ground Nyamhunga is still under renovations, have indicated they will play their home matches at Gwanzura.
CAPS United used the National Sports Stadium as their home ground last season but the arrival of Dynamos has fuelled speculation that the Green Machine will relocate to Gwanzura.
Rufaro appears to have fallen out of favour with the Premiership clubs with the artificial surface, which has not been maintained on a regular basis, being condemned by experts.
