Harare City Council has urged all home owners to ensure that their properties are registered with council or risk accumulating debts.
Town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi said delays in registering the properties with council meant an accumulation of debt because the amount due to the city is calculated from the day the certificate of occupation was issued
“Every property in Harare should be receiving a municipal bill and should be paying to council.
“At the moment the city has registered 220 602 properties on the valuation roll. We believe there are more properties that have not be captured,” he said.
He said there is an ongoing exercise across the city to register all properties and it should be in the best interest of all homeowners whose properties are not registered to voluntarily submit details of these.
Meanwhile, the city says 13 containers of construction material for the upgrading of the city’s water system under the US$144 million China Import and Export Bank loan, have arrived in the country while another eight are being offloaded in Beira, Mozambique.
Dr Mahachi said the containers in Beira are expected in the country soon.
Twenty-five engineers are already in the country to implement the programme and have started work on the warehouse in which the construction materials and pumps would be kept.
