A CHINHOYI Councillor who bashed a fellow Councillor during a Council meeting has been dragged to court for assault.
Ward 10 Councillor, Cllr Godknows Muzhandamhuri, 37, appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Kudzanai Mahaso facing assault charges.
The complainant is Cllr David Malunga, 51, of Ward 8, who is employed by Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company, as a storekeeper.
Cllr Muzhandamhuri was given a free bail and will be back in court next Friday.
Prosecuting, Priscilla Nyengera, told the court that on September 16, at around 5:30 pm, Chinhoyi Municipality held a Council meeting at the Chinhoyi Civic Centre.
Cllr Muzhandamhuri and Cllr Malunga attended the meeting as sitting Councillors.
The court heard that during the meeting, Cllr Malunga raised a point about reimbursement of allowance funds to the Council by Councillors who had attended a Council business meeting in Victoria Falls.
This did not go well with Cllr Muzhandamhuri.
A heated debate erupted and Cllr Muzhandamhuri charged towards where Cllr Malunga was seated.
He went on to assault Malunga, slapping him twice on the head.
Cllr Muzhandamhuri was then restrained from further assaulting Cllr Malunga by fellow councillors − Cllr Ignatius Zvigadza and Cllr Voster Mashevedzanwa.
Cllr Malunga was then excused from the meeting and Cllr Muzhandamhuri followed him.
