MIDLANDS Provincial Magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa has granted an application for the termination of pregnancy for a 15- year-old girl who was raped and impregnated by a self- proclaimed prophet from Lower Gweru.
The prophet has since been arrested for allegedly raping the girl while claiming to be cleansing her of evil spirits at his shrine in a mountain.
The girl is now 11 weeks pregnant.
Carlington Siziba (24), the self-confessed prophet from Mavuseni Village in Lower Gweru, allegedly introduced the girl to his family as his second wife after impregnating her.
Siziba was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to August 9 when he appeared before Gweru magistrate Ms Judith Taruvinga.
According to the annexure form (242) availed in court, sometime in May this year, Siziba was engaged by the complainant’s parents at their homestead in Lower Gweru for spiritual healing.
The accused person then allegedly prophesied that the girl was possessed with some evil spirits that caused her to run away from home at one time.
“Siziba together with the complainant’s parents went to his shrine where they spent three days. Afterwards he ordered the parents to go back home leaving behind the minor with the other congregants,” read part of the form 242.
“While in the hut Siziba raped the complainant before threatening her with death with an okapi knife if she informed anyone. From May 9 to July 12 the accused started engaging in sexual intercourse with the complainant on different occasions for two months.”
He later introduced the girl as his second wife to his first wife and stayed with her at his homestead.
Ms Chipo Ncube appeared for the state.
Midlands Provincial Magistrate Mrs Msipa granted the girl an application to terminate the pregnancy.
