A MUTARE man has obtained a protection order against his wife after accusing her of subjecting him to persistent harassment, assault and threats with knives, leaving their marriage on the brink of collapse.
Brian Mutasa of Dora Pindo Village was granted the order against his wife, Loina Manyiwa, by Mutare magistrate, Ms Sarah Kanyenze, at the Mutare Civil Court last Friday.
Mutasa said he had endured repeated abuse at the hands of his wife, whom he accused of threatening him with knives and humiliating him in their home.
“She threatens me with a knife,” he said.
Despite the alleged abuse, Mutasa said he had refrained from retaliating because he respected his wife.
“She even pours 20 litres of water on me. I do not fight back because I have a lot of respect for her,” he said.
The applicant said the alleged behaviour had severely strained communication between the couple, and made it difficult for them to live peacefully together.
“She is always disrespectful and keeps threatening me with knives. I no longer want to talk to her. I just want the harassment to stop,” said Mutasa.
He further claimed that the marital dispute had affected his relationship with their children.
“She has taken all the children away from me. She also took all the property. I am only left with a bathing bucket,” he said.
Mutasa also alleged that Manyiwa had on several occasions threatened to take her own life, further worsening tensions within the household.
Manyiwa did not attend the court hearing despite having been properly served with court papers. As a result, the court proceeded in her absence and recorded her as being in default.
After considering the application, Ms Kanyenze granted a protection order in favour of Mutasa.
The order bars Manyiwa from harassing, intimidating or threatening her husband and is intended to safeguard him from the conduct outlined in his application.
In his submission, Mutasa told the court that his primary concern was to restore peace and end the alleged abuse, stressing that he had no intention of retaliating against his wife despite the challenges in their marriage.
