Covid-19 tests scrapped for Beijing travellers

BEIJING – China’s customs authorities yesterday announced the removal of COVID-19 nucleic acid or antigen test requirements for all inbound international travelers.

Starting today, travellers to China will no longer need to report the results of their nucleic acid or antigen tests taken within 48 hours when making health declaration to China’s customs, according to a statement from the General Administration of Customs.

China has had some of the strictest restrictions in place when it comes to travel. The new norm is set to replace the rule that was a major deterrent for travellers to come and visit the nation, even when the country resumed issuing all types of visas in March.

This move aims to stimulate inbound tourism, normalise travel procedures, and aid the recovery of China’s travel industry. The withdrawal of Covid-19 testing requirements will considerably ease the entry process for travellers coming to China.

This will improve travel convenience and is a big step towards normalising travel procedures in China. It also aligns with the government’s efforts to fully reopen the Chinese economy and revive its travel industry and allied sectors.

After reopening applications for all types of visas earlier in March 2023, including the resumption of visa-free policies, the government’s latest move aims to rekindle interest in the travel market and make the prospect of visiting China more alluring. – ChinaDaily.
