COWDRAY Park Queens Football Club are looking forward to their debut season in the Zimbabwe Women Football Super League. The start of the ladies’ season has been tentatively set for May 9. Spokesperson, Mthokozisi Ngwenya said they hope to have an impact in the league and even go all the way to winning the title in their debut season.

“Preparations are ongoing as we count down to our first match in the elite league. So far we’ve agreed to use our ground here in Cowdray Park so that people can attend our matches without hassles of looking for transport money,” said Ngwenya.

He said his team has fully paid its affiliation fees which were set at $1,000.

The Miriam Sibanda led women’s football league has 12 teams from across the country. Burrow Jets and Hwange Ladies are the other teams from this part of the country.

Sibanda’s board survived on Monday after a petition to suspend her signed by councillors that met at Zifa Village was declared illegal.

Matabeleland South chairperson Samukele Sibanda and northern region boss Wilbert Rambanapasi came out in public saying they denied to append their signatures with Sibanda saying someone signed on her behalf after she flatly refused to sign the so called petition.

She was labelled a gamatox and threatened with expulsion from the Village in the middle of the night but she stood her ground.
