A 45-YEAR-OLD Cowdray Park woman who was allegedly caught with 2,6 kilograms of mbanje with a street value of ZiG78 000 will know her fate on Friday.
Sazini Phiri appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Mark Dzira facing charges of illegal possession of dagga after she was nabbed in the city centre carrying the stash in a cardboard box.
According to prosecutor Jethro Mada, detectives pounced on Phiri shortly after midnight on October 30 after receiving a tip-off that she was heading to town from Cowdray Park with drugs.
“The detectives intercepted a commuter omnibus at TM Hyper where the accused disembarked carrying a plastic bag. They identified themselves and asked her to open the bag, which contained a sealed cardboard box. Inside were two transparent plastic papers with dagga,” said Mada.
Phiri allegedly failed to produce a permit authorising her to possess the drug, leading to her arrest.
Detectives later searched her Cowdray Park home where they found more dagga stashed in a small plastic container in her yard.
“The recovered loose dagga was weighed at Bulawayo Main Post Office in the presence of the accused and it totalled 2,6 kilograms,” said Mada.
Magistrate Dzira deferred judgment to 31 October.
