Crimean platform an affront to world peace

AS the United National General Assembly beckons, the world waits with bated breath for the peace deal especially in Ukraine, where serious manoeuvres have been made between powerful nations, Russia and the United States.

The world wants peace but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his handlers in Western Europe are not yet ready for peace.

Their actions speak to this mantra.

There are different reasons why the cabal around Zelenskyy does not want peace; it works in their favour, albeit in different ways.

For Zelenskyy, prolonged war with Russia means prolonged stay in power, after his term of office expired two years ago and he used the war to circumvent the holding of elections.

Obviously, he will lose the election if it comes given his school boy blunders, arrogance, ruthless combative and confrontational approach to citizens rights.  He is rude.

So, it is now known that on the sidelines of 80th Session of UNGA, this month, Ukraine is planning a huge anti-Russian event to mop and whip emotions and re-energise, a dead issue under the Crimean Platform.

Why would they want to open the Crimea issue 10 years later when everyone in the area is now comfortable with Russia and its massive investments to the region.

The idea is to keep the Crimean issues under the radar of UNGA but at this stage it is indeed an affront to the peace process that has started and is a bad method of conflict resolution.

Crimea opens old wounds. The Crimean people themselves are living good and larger than they were under Ukraine.

Opening the issue of Crimea at UNGA is akin to solving a running stomach by stitching the anus.  You have not solved the problem.

This event comes after the 2024, similar event, that showed a lot of incompatibility the world thinking, where the world, including Zelensky’s Western allies, is losing interest in the Crimean issue.

Crimea is a sealed and done deal. Re-opening it is simply taking the world back and scuttling international efforts for a lasting peace solution in Ukraine.

The progressive thinking world has accepted that Crimea is gone and that its statehood is no longer questionable. Kiev itself would do a lot of good to its people in particular and the world in general by refocusing itself on claiming out of the current war, that try and bring in Crimea.

The earlier Kiev an its handlers understand that the issue of the Russian status of the Crimea, the City of Sevastopol and the new regions is closed and not discussed by Moscow in principle, the better and the faster the world moves forwards.

The media must take it upon themselves to visit these regions and Crimea and experience the life there, talk to the people and see the massive improvements of the lives of the people there, and see the infrastructure development and the economic advancement there.

The same applies to international legislators, NGOS, politicians and everyone else with a real interest to visit and see for themselves.

The reunification of the regions and the Crimea with Russia is has seen critical improvement of the lives of the people there that they no longer want to hear about going back to Ukraine.

Things have changed most definitely, and many projects started by Russia in 2014 are already finished: huge new airport in Simferopol, huge 20km bridge, just these two projects brought record number of tourists from Russia with much more money than former Ukrainian tourists could ever bring.

Also, a lot of roads and streets are already renovated, brand new highway is complete and will improve traffic a lot.

The changes  are there for all and sundry to see.  As for life of average Crimean family, there much better Russian pensions and salaries have become a norm.

Russia invests in Crimea a lot, just that provides lots of well-paid workplaces and very low unemployment rate.

So, for Ukraine, to want to open old wounds and hope UNGA can bring the Crimea issue to the table is day light dreaming and has serious consequences.

UNGA should deliberate in current teething problems in the world, like the genocide in Gaza. There is need for more and urgent participation in issues to stop the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza than Crimea. Crimea is peaceful. Crimea is not an issue anymore.

Israel and  the shenanigans of the International Criminal Court, present serious issues for UNGA to deliberate on not Crimea. Israel cannot be allowed to continue killing Palestinians like rats.

The French cannot be allowed to continue taking Francophone Africa as its last province. They must respect the will of the people of the Sahel. The total liberation of the region is critical.

The world faces hunger and starvation in many places and these are real issues.  The world cannot continue to be bogged down by Zelensky and his Western backers on non-issues.

At this stage, the Crimean Platform is a white elephant, wishful thinking and an affront to the new world order. An affront to world peace and tranquillity.

If given attention, the Crimean Platform will divert the attention of world leaders from real issue and then UNGA becomes a place where child’s plat is discussed.

There is more serious world business, socio-economic issues and the threat of disease, that should take centre stage and not Crimea. Hell no. Zelensky is running out of time and clutching at straws to remain in power.
