SEVENTY-FIVE players took part in the Zimbabwe High Goal Polocrosse tournament held at the Bulawayo Country Club over the weekend. The two-day tournament was being held in Bulawayo for the first time and featured all the country’s top polocrosse players. The event was played over four divisions, with A Division featuring the top players, B Division, C Division and the Under-12s, also known as the Pewees Division.
All teams faced each other in a round robin format and Ballymore shrugged off stiff competition to win the A Division, while Team Xco Sport dominated the B Division. In the individual honours, Arlene Crook scooped the best lady rider and Craig Mannix the men’s award.
Richard Ellman-Brown, chairman of Bulawayo Country Club, believes they organised one of the best local polocrosse tournaments despite encountering some challenges. “This has been a fantastic tournament considering this is the first time the tournament was held in Bulawayo. Of course, there were challenges here and there, but it has been a success,” said Ellman-Brown.
“In this competition, we have the Pewees Division, who are the Under-12s, our up-and-coming crop of polocrosse players. When you look at these players in five years time, they will be playing in the A or B Divisions, so from a polocrosse point of view, this is fantastic because we know there is growth coming from the bottom and there is continuity within our ranks,” he said. — @khumzallen
