SALLY Mugabe Children’s Hospital in Harare celebrated a heart-warming Community Day on Friday last week, thanks to the generosity of Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

The organisation donated essential medical supplies, electronic gadgets and food hampers, bringing joy and relief to both patients and staff.

CRS, a non-governmental organisation, marks its annual Community Day in October as a special occasion dedicated to spreading goodwill and making a positive impact.

This year, the organisation chose to brighten the day of patients and staff at Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital.

24 medical consumable kits, filled with essential supplies, were donated to support the community’s health and well-being.

Additionally, a HP ProOne G9 desktop computer and a Color LaserJet Printer 279FBW were donated to enhance medical services.

To further demonstrate their compassion, CRS provided food hampers, offering comfort and nourishment to patients and their families during challenging times.

Ms Yeukai Mashingaidze, head of operations at CRS, emphasised the organization’s commitment to building trust and forging connections with the community they serve.

“Our goal is to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others,” she said.

Dr Claudine Pasi, Head of the Paediatric Division at Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital, expressed her sincere gratitude for the generous donations.

“These medical consumables are essential for our day-to-day operations, and the computer and printer will greatly improve our efficiency,” said Dr Pasi.

“We are truly grateful for CRS’s support.”

Despite the generous donation, the hospital faces some challenges, particularly with water supply.

Sister Rusiya Jongwe, Matron in Charge of Children, highlighted the critical issue of water shortages, which occur two days per week.

“We are appealing to the relevant authorities to assist us in ensuring a 24-hour water supply, as it is essential for the well-being of our patients and staff,” said Sister Jongwe.
