Cry out to the Lord

Walking in Spirit

Psalms 30:5 NKJV; “For His anger is, but for a moment, His favour is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.”

When was the last time you cried? Crying is one of the most common emotional expressions known to the human body. People tend to cry for a variety of reasons, some to express joy and others are abject cries of anguish. We can all relate to both.

Someone sent me a string of texts they had been exchanging with their son. In the messages the man expresses his anguish at the loss of his father and laments how his father could have been there to watch him achieve the things he was achieving. His mother responded and expressed the belief that he would surely be proud of him.

His cry of anguish was for a father who was no longer there, he felt the need to express this pent up pain and the only way he knew how in his private moment, was to shed tears. Aren’t we all like that, when we are helpless and all alone and, if we are emotionally mature we can freely express how we feel regardless of the audience.

Society often teaches that one should not cry in public and more so, men are encouraged that it is not manly to do so. Our bodies were made in a unique way that ultimately allows for the release of these things that burden us.

Though the young man’s tears troubled his mother, in its own unique way crying was in itself a language. A language that the Maker created for situations and circumstances where nothing else is left, but to lament.

In that moment of lamentation, a renewal of the spirit is achieved, for those few minutes the burdens are lifted.

Each one of us has a burden, we deal differently with those burdens. Where we are confronted with tears, let’s be comforted by the grace to know that it’s okay to cry.

Before we know it, time will pass and surely though His divine will, joy will come. The psalmist says mourning may endure by night, but joy comes in the morning, meaning that the period of mourning, confusion and pain will come to an end and when it does, a new dawn will be heralded.

Do you feel like crying today? Cry out to our Lord. It’s a tried and tested formula that great patriarchs of the Bible did with humility and supplication.

Be blessed.
