CUBA has condemned a new escalation of aggression by the United States following proposals to impose a total blockade on fuel supplies to the Caribbean nation.

Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Mr Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla said the proposed measures were based on a long list of lies aimed at falsely portraying Cuba as a threat.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the new escalation of the United States against Cuba. It is now proposing to impose a total blockade on fuel supplies to our country,” he said.

Mr Rodríguez accused Washington of being the principal threat to peace, security and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean and said the US government continues to pursue a policy of domination against the region.

“Every day there is new evidence that the only malign influence in our America is that exercised by the US government, which seeks to subject nations to its dictates, strip them of their resources, mutilate their sovereignty and deprive them of their independence,” he said.

Mr Rodríguez further alleged that the United States was using blackmail and coercion to pressure other countries into complying with its embargo policy against Cuba.

He said those who refuse face threats of arbitrary and abusive tariffs in violation of international free-trade rules.

Mr Rodriguez said Cuba was denouncing before the international community a brutal act of aggression against the Cuban people, who have endured an economic blockade for more than six decades.

“For over 65 years, Cuba has been subjected to the most prolonged and cruel economic blockade ever imposed on a nation, and is now being threatened with extreme living conditions,” he said.
