Cultural exchange hailed

Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Jeitendra Kumar Tripathi yesterday said the exchange of handicraft between nations was vital in strengthening mutual co-operation among the people.
Speaking at a press conference in Harare, Ambassador Triparthi said exhibition and exchange of artefacts originated by Zimbabweans and Indians were important in making people understand the cultural component of each other. The press conference was held ahead of the nine-day long second exhibition of handicrafts for 14 Indian companies slated for Joina Centre today at 7pm.

“The main aim of the exhibition is to expose rich Indian handicraft in Zimbabwe including culture, arts, crafts and food,” said Mr Tripathi.
“The festival will have four main components which include handicrafts, live demonstrations by six craft persons, cultural performance by Indian artists.”

He said the embassy was organising a food festival to be held next month for people to have a first hand experience of Indian food.
“This week we will give exposure to Zimbabwe of India’s promising handicraft and a food festival will follow in October.

“We intend to invite renowned chefs from New Delhi to prepare authentic Indian cuisine. We will continue exhibitions at cultural festivals from time to time such as at Hifa,” he said.

Zimbabwe becomes one of the new countries to exhibit Indian artefacts after countries such as the United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Canada and Netherlands among others.
