SIMUKA comedy has launched a comedy series titled uGiribeti lo Qeqetshile which is meant to promote cultural diversity and unite different ethnic groups.

The series was produced by Victor Tinashe Mpofu popularly known as Doc Vikela, a creative director and comedian.

In an interview, Doc Vikela said the motivation behind producing the comedy series is to tell a story that incorporates the different ethnic groups in the country.

“Our motivation is to bridge the silent tribal line and we did this through incorporating Shona and Ndebele amongst other minority languages. The goal is to tell a unique story in our different languages.

“We want to grow the culture of telling our story in our own languages so that nothing is lost in translation. The key message in our production is to learn to co-exist in spaces regardless of the different languages that we speak and the need to learn to communicate using these languages,” said Doc Vikela.

He said that the comedy series has a number of episodes and it tells a story of a young woman from the rural areas with big dreams.

“The series is about a young girl who lives in Gwelutshena in Nkayi, Matabeleland North province whose dream is to go to Harare in search of greener pastures.

“The first season of the sitcom has about 13 episodes and we have shot season one and two which is available on our YouTube channel,” he said.

Doc Vikela said he is happy about the support that they have received from the audience and they have a number of projects in place for 2024.

“We are happy about the support that we have received from the audiences and positive reviews. This year, we have a number of projects lined up, we have three short films, two sitcoms and l am currently doing a stand up tour around the country,” he said.
