Curran hails Eagles

Eagles beat perennial campaigners Mid West Rhinos by 63 runs to lift the title in the limited overs final at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.
The Harare based outfit capped the season with the silverware after dominating the competition in the round robin phase.
Going into the final, Eagles had won six of their eight games to finish top of the table with 28 points while Rhinos were second with 24 points.
“I am happy with the commitment shown by these guys. It was a combination of discipline and good work ethic. We have been consistent the whole season which took us to the top of the table. I would attribute it to all round team work because we were also able to play in the twenty20 final and finished second in the Logan Cup competition,” said Curran.
Eagles who had beaten Rhinos back to back this season ensured that they completed a hattrick when they successfully defended their decent total of 220/8 after batting first. They dismissed their opponents for 157.
Eagles had made a bad start but Chigumbura led the recovery with an unbeaten 104 before taking three wickets with the ball. They were at one time reeling at 5-35 but they managed to come back to post a modest total.
Their bowlers did well to restrict Rhinos and again Chigumbura was the toast of the day with three wickets to his name. Curran said he was impressed by how the experienced players were blending with the youthful players in his side.
“We have good players coming up like our bowler Lovemore Manatsa and Nathan Waller, who is a good all rounder. They are doing well and it’s a matter of time before these guys start knocking on the national team door.
“These guys are going to put pressure on the players in the national team if they continue developing at that rate. We have also been working hard on the fitness part because a healthy body and healthy mind produce a good athlete,” said Curran.
