Psalm 24 vs 1-2, Vs 1, The earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. 2, For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters. Psalm 104 vs 5-6. vs 5, You who laid the foundations of the earth, So that it should not be moved forever vs 6, You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters stood above the mountains. Psalm 29 vs 3, 10. vs 3, The voice of the LORD is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters vs 10, The LORD sat enthroned at the Flood, And the LORD sits as King forever.
In our previous article, we covered the following: How Jesus dealt with water spirits (Matthew 8 vs 23-32), (Mark 5 vs 1-13); how Job complained bitterly to his friends and to God after his affliction and suffering as he mentioned the demonic force called the “sea serpent” Job 7 vs 12. We also mentioned a massive sea creature that was corrupted by Satan to become an evil creature called the “leviathan” (Psalm 104 vs 26, Psalm 74 vs 13-14, Isaiah 27 vs 1, Job 41 vs 1-10, Job 3 vs 8). Finally we dealt with attributes and characteristics of water spirits.
This article will cover some of the curses associated with water spirits. Firstly we want to give the reasons why people get initiated in water spirits.
The following are some of the reasons, a strong desire for power to lead or rule; a desire to possess excessive power or magical powers; trying to get healed of sickness and afflictions; trying to get power to prosper in business and amass wealth; to be cured from barrenness and thus have children; trying to find a life partner; trying to exercise powers of witchcraft; trying to ensure fast growth of a church; trying to have access to supernatural powers; trying to establish spiritual thrones and acquire power and trying to get “delivered” from demonic oppression.
It is very important to note that water spirits increase one’s bondage to demonic forces and ultimately leave individuals worse off.
The following are the evil effects of water spirit worship — they provoke God’s anger — God forbids the worship of anything other than himself. Judges 2 vs 12, “. . . and they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods from among the gods of the people who were all around them, and they bowed down to them; and they provoked the LORD to anger.” Deuteronomy 13 vs 17, “So none of the accursed things shall remain in your hand, that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of His anger and show you mercy, have compassion on you and multiply you, just as He swore to your fathers . . .”
They bring a curse. A curse can be described as a supernatural empowerment to fail in every facet of one’s life.
In 1 Corinthians 10 vs 4, the Bible states “my dear friends, flee from idolatry”. An idol is anything that is equated to or put above God and the use of water spirits definitely falls under the idol worship category.
It has been noted that many who use water for power exalt such practice above the use of the name of Jesus and thus making such practice an idol. Psalm 97 vs 7, “Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, Who boast of idols. Worship Him, all you gods.” Deuteronomy 27 vs 15, “Cursed is the one who makes a carved or moulded image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.” And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen!’ Psalm 16 vs 4, “Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, nor take up their names on my lips.”
Idolatry attracts war and bloodshed. Ezekiel 6 vs 13-14, Vs 13 “Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when their slain are among their idols all around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, under every green tree, and under every thick oak, wherever they offered sweet incense to all their idols.
Vs 14 “So I will stretch out My hand against them and make the land desolate, yes, more desolate than the wilderness toward Diblah, in all their dwelling places. Then they shall know that I am the LORD.”
Idolatry defiles and pollutes the land and the people. Jeremiah 16 vs 16-18, Vs 16 “Behold, I will send for many fishermen,” says the LORD, “and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. Vs 17 “For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes.
Vs 18 “And first I will repay double for their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable idols.”
It brings a covering of darkness over the land and the people. Isaiah 25 vs 7, “And He will destroy on this mountain The surface of the covering cast over all people, And the veil that is spread over all nations.”
It affects not only the person that commits sin but many generations. Exodus 20 vs 2-3, 5, vs 2, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Vs 3, “You shall have no other gods before Me.
Vs 5, “. . . you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me…”
It transfers the land and its resources therein to the control of spirits.
Some of the manifestations of water spirits are as follows: bathing in ponds or rivers at mid-day or midnight; throwing objects like clothes, jewelry, underwear or beads inside the water; sprinkling of “so called holy waters” on devotees; use of towels, stickers, pictures, bangles, beads, selling bottles of oil and over emphasizing the power of a leader and not Jesus and purification rituals involving washing of sex organs of devotees in sacred streams and rivers.
Fetish priests or leaders take young girls to the river to bath them and marry them (give them over) to water spirits.
Worshipping of the “so-called man of God or “so-called priest of God and taking their word above that of God.
The effects of curses is seldom limited to the individual, it may extend to families, tribes, or whole communities. Once curses are released, they tend to continue from generation to generation until something happens to cancel their effects. In (Deuteronomy 28 vs 16-68) Moses goes into great detail in listing curses.
The following is the suggested summary: humiliation vs 16; barrenness, unfruitfulness (vs 18); some forms of mental and physical sickness (vs 20); family breakdown (vs 30, 32); poverty (vs 17); defeat (vs 25); oppression (vs 33); God’s disfavour (vs 45), confusion of heart and mind (vs 20, 28), repeated or chronic sickness, (vs 21-28).
This list does not necessarily indicate that every form of sickness or disease is the direct result of a curse.
The key words are plague, incurable, extraordinary, fearful, prolonged, lingering. These words create an “atmosphere of a curse,” they suggest evil forces at work.
A significant term used in reference to certain types of sickness is hereditary, this word describes a condition that passes down from generation to generation. That surely is a mark of a curse.
In conclusion, you may begin to ask, “why a curse on you and your family?” “What is the source of your problem?”
In Proverbs 26 vs 2, “Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, so a curse without cause shall not alight.” Solomon establishes this principle with respect to curses.
“A curse without a cause shall not alight,” behind every curse that comes upon us, there is a cause, certainly water spirits activate the curse.
How to be delivered from such curses: Leave the environment where the use of water is encouraged and cut ties with such leaders.
Repent from such activities and ask God to deliver you in the Name of Jesus. Throw away any containers of water or oil you may have purchased. As a rule of life, use only the Name of Jesus and nothing else.
