Curtain comes down on CSL

THE curtain will come down on the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) season this weekend with the major highlight being the coronation of Border Strikers as champions.

The Beitbridge based outfit won the sole promotional ticket to the topflight league when Sable Chemicals was in a no show at Dulibadzimu Stadium a fortnight ago.

The border town outfit was awarded the match on a 3-0 score line.

A presentation ceremony has been slated for this afternoon just before Vavheneki play Blanket Mine in their last Division One fixture in Beitbridge before joining the big boys’ club in the Premier Soccer League.

CSL chairman Felton Kamambo said Border Strikers would be presented with a shield and medals for winning the region’s championship.

“We’re going to have a presentation ceremony for Border Strikers at Dulibadzimu tomorrow.

“We felt it would be proper if they’re crowned before their home fans,” said Kamambo.

“We’re going to present them with a shield and medals for the players, technical team and members of the executive. Unfortunately, there’s not going to be prize money but hopefully they’ll be given something when we hold our annual general meeting next year.”

A full house is expected at Dulibadzimu as fans celebrate the crowning moment with their heroes.

Meanwhile, Tongogara will be hoping to finish the season in second place when they host Blanket Mine at Battlefields.

A win will ensure the army side finishes the season second, pipping Shabanie Mine, who already have three points in the bag as they were scheduled to play expelled Mvuma Stars.

Tongogara and Shabanie Mine have 52 points each, but the army side are second because of a superior goal difference.
