
PRETORIA. — Southern African Development Community (SADC) facilitator in Lesotho and South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa was expected to visit the Mozambican capital Maputo for a consultative meeting on Lesotho yesterday, the South African Presidency announced.
Convened by the President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, in his capacity as the chairperson of the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security, the meeting would also be attended by Lesotho Prime Minister Phakalitha Mosisili.
“The consultative meeting is part of ongoing SADC efforts to consolidate peace and stability in the Kingdom of Lesotho,” the Presidency said.
DP Ramaphosa’s efforts to bring about peace and stability to Maseru resulted in the reopening of parliament, the holding of democratic elections and the inauguration of a democratic government in the mountain kingdom.
Under his facilitation, SADC continued to support Lesotho through the Commission of Inquiry, which was established to look into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assassination of the former Lesotho Defence Force commander Brigadier Maaparankoe Mahao soon after the formation of a new government. — Star Africa.
