THE Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) and farmers’ unions will meet this month to deliberate on value chain issues.
CZI president Busisa Moyo said the symposium was the confederation’s inaugural meeting with the farmers as the industry seeks information regarding the farmers output so that millers and other companies involved in food processing can plan accordingly.
“The symposium is meant to gather data on the quantities produced by farmers and find ways of boosting production.
“We need to share information so that farmers know what the industry wants and the industry also gets information on the quantities produced,” he said.
Moyo said the objective was to have a situation whereby farmers produce what is wanted by the industry to avoid a situation whereby farmers complain about lack of market for their produce.
He said it was pleasing to note that there were development partners willing to provide funding to support the revival of local industry which means an expanded market for the farmers’ produce.
