D-Day for Miss Zimbabwe

JUST a few hours are left before the country’s representative at the Miss World finale, Tendai Hunda, takes to the Excel ramp in London.

All eyes will be on Hunda tomorrow when she competes for the coveted crown against 121 beauty queens from different parts of the world. After three rigorous weeks in boot camp, only one of the models will be crowned queen by outgoing Miss World, Miss Philippines Megan Young.

During camp, Hunda underwent training and took part in various activities which were also their preliminary rounds. The Zimbabwean beauty managed to be shortlisted for Top Model but lost to Malaysia’s Dewi Liana Seriestha.

Hunda also had an opportunity to showcase her ability in dancing; music and other art forms, in the Talent hunt competition but lost to Dewi again. For coming out tops, Dewi will perform her talent act during tomorrow’s finale. Beauty with a purpose went to Brazil’s Julia Gama while the People’s Choice went to Australia’s Courtney Thorpe.

Through chats on Facebook, Hunda said she was upbeat ahead of the finale as she had done all she could.

“I’ve done all I could and am waiting for the finale. Though it was patchy at first, I’m glad I pulled through,” Hunda said.

Today, the models will have a dress rehearsal before Hunda hits the ramp in a designer gown, tailor made for her by renowned South-Africa based designer, Sperro Villioti tomorrow.

But, the queen will likely be compromised as she missed some of the fast track events which contributed to her final marks. Hunda got to London almost a week after other contestants had checked in for camp as she was roped in at the last hour to represent Zimbabwe after the national queen was dethroned.

Sky Blu of the dynamic party rock electro-pop dance duo LMFAO will perform at the finale. The multitalented, Grammy-award winner, whose real name is Skyler Austen Gordy, will open the ceremony with his latest single We Love Girls.

Meanwhile, betting odds are taking place to decide the top five contestants.
