THE National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe has invited artists to submit their artwork for the Zimbabwe Visual Arts Awards, as today is the deadline. The deadline was extended from July 8 to afford artists more time to submit their works.

The inaugural awards will honour the outstanding creations of artists with expertise in various media, including painting, photography, architecture, ceramics, design, graphics, and digital art.

All Zimbabwean artists who are 18 years old and above are eligible to enter their works.

Curator for Contemporary Art Fadzayi Muchemwa said artists still have a chance to send before the end of the day.

“The deadline was extended from July 8 to give more time to artists who could not send their work on time. Although today is the final deadline, artists still have time to send their work within the remaining hours, who knows, they may be lucky.

“The awards will present an expert-based professionally juried and industrial measurable commendation to practicing artists in Zimbabwe,” Muchemwa said.

Over the years, the gallery has been offering a platform for artists to design and exhibit their artwork.

In Bulawayo, the gallery provides studios where most local artists spend their time working. It has also helped with the development of rising artists such as Ishmael Singo, whose Magoritoto exhibition awed many at the gallery.
