adminPretoria – The Democratic Alliance surpassed the total number of votes it garnered in the Western Cape in 2009, with a little over a million ballots still to be captured on Thursday.
By 15:30 the ruling party in the province had won 1 050 459 of a possible 2.9 million registered voters for 57.28% of the ballot compared to the 989 132 (48.78%) at the end of the count in 2009.
The African National Congress had 33.97% of the vote so far with 627 526 votes, followed by the Economic Freedom Fighters with jsut over 40 869, which is 2.21%.
The African Christian Democratic Party and Freedom Front Plus stood at just over 1% each, earning each party just over 20 000 votes.
The Congress of the People dropped to under 1% with 12 217 votes.
Provincially the DA is just short of 60%, which is almost 10% up from the amount of votes they garnered in 2009.
The ANC is in a similar position as five years ago with 32.84% of the vote so far. The ANC had a total of 31.55% at the previous elections.-SAPA
