SHAMELESS and evil — that’s how many would describe a 35-year-old Nkayi man now facing trial for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter on two occasions. But beyond the horror, this case shines a painful light on the silent abuse happening in many homes, where victims suffer in fear and silence.

The man from Dlawa Village, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, allegedly violated his daughter between last year and April this year. He denied the charges before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Mark Dzira and will return to court on Thursday, 30 October.
Prosecutor Jethro Mada said the first attack happened when the man sent his daughter to his bedroom to fetch tobacco before following her and forcing himself on her.

“The accused followed her into the bedroom and removed her clothes, forced her to lie down facing upwards, and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent,” said Mada.
Mada told the court that on the second incident, the complainant was cleaning the house when the accused got in and closed the door, undressed her, forced the complainant to lie down and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

The matter came to light when the complainant confided to her aunt leading to the arrest of the accused person.
