MAN from Cowdray Park suburb appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate after he was accused of allegedly sexually attacking his stepdaughter on several occasions and infecting her with a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

The 41-year-old man who cannot be named for ethical reasons to protect the identity of his 12-year-old daughter appeared before regional magistrate Collet Ncube facing a rape charge.

He was asked to plead and he was remanded in custody to 16 May for commencement of trial. A court heard that the accused man started to sexually attack his stepdaughter on 14 April last month.

It is said whenever his wife left the daughter in his care, he would give her money that ranged from R10 to US$1, thereafter he would allegedly sexually attack her.

It is alleged that he would tell the minor that he would not give her money if she revealed the ordeal to anyone.

The court heard that on certain occasions he would wake up during the night and tiptoe to the minor’s bedroom where he would allegedly rape her.

The matter came to light when the minor felt something itching in her private parts, forcing her to inform her mother. After that her mother quizzed her and she revealed that her step-dad raped her.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the man. The minor was taken to hospital for medical attention and it was discovered that she had contracted an STI. A prosecutor said a medical report will be produced in court.
