DANIEL, ARE YOU LUCKY’S CHILD?

Sports Reporter

FOOTBALL fans can be quite funny, at times.

Warriors’ forward Daniel Msendami woke up yesterday to be met by a series of messages from his new army of fans at Orlando Pirates.

This follows his debut match in Soweto on Saturday.

Msendami came from the bench as Pirates beat Magesi 2-0 at the Orlando Stadium.

The game had a fair mix of Zimbabwean talent with Elvis Chipezeze in goals for Magesi who also brought in Edmore Chirambadare as a second half substitute.

Msendami was introduced in the 76th minute and the Pirates fans have been debating his debut performance.

One message, in particular, was quite hilarious.

A Pirates fan invited club legend Lucky Lekgwathi to come to a platform and address his question about whether he wasn’t Msendami’s father.

According to the fan, the two share a striking similarity.

Lekgwathi is Pirates’ most successful captain after leading the club to six trophies in two seasons.

He is the only captain in Supa Diski to lead his side to win the double treble.

Lekgwathi retired from professional football in 2016, at the age of 40, just minutes after the late Tendai Ndoro had scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Golden Arrows.

He spent 14 years at Pirates and won 14 Bafana Bafana caps.

As Pirates fans discussed Msendami’s debut performance, one of the supporters posted a cheeky message.

“Lucky Lekgwathi, gather here and tell us the truth,” said Masimbavictor Revesai.

And, another fan, Gift Khwela II, responded:

“Lekgwati reincarnated.”

But, beyond the jokes about the Msendami/Lekgwathi links, there was some serious debate about how the Warrior performed in the Bucs colours.

He needs a few games to settle then he will be what pirates have always wanted – the pin point passing, the pace, the dribbles, the goals. Up the Bucks. – Farai Maraidza

What I like about his play is that he aims at going forward only and that’s a positive way to get more goals and assists. – Anthony Moyane

***

He is one of the best players in our SADC region as we saw from his performance at AFCON, so today he did well with those few minutes he played. – Siphiwe King

***

He’s trying so hard, he must just play his normal football. Otherwise ke star. – Stanley Moema

He was playing simple, I’m definitely sure if he can come early he will do us proud, what experience from him, no need to rush while you lead by two goals. – Mapetla Guitarman-show Mapetla
