A DARING suspect ended up asking for help from the same policemen he was fleeing from after he was seriously injured while attempting to escape through a window at Hatfield Police Station in Harare over the weekend.
The suspect cut his head badly after leaping through a closed window, smashing the glass, and crashing to the concrete-covered ground outside. He yelled for help.
He was immediately rushed to hospital and was placed under 24-hour guard, a police spokesman for Harare Province said yesterday.
LESSONS FOR TODAY
The police are there to maintain law and order. Fleeing from the police is never a good idea especially when one is already in custody because it can be misconstrued that one is guilty even before investigations are concluded.
It also invites more problems for the escapees because the law does not take lightly to people who try to escape from lawful custody.
Attempts to escape by the suspect in the story did not only lend him into serious problems but also came at a heavy price since he seriously injured himself when he fell. He was actually fortunate because the fall might have been fatal.
Very few people who escape from the police do so successfully. Most are often accounted for sooner or later.
