A BULAWAYO tout who fondled a police officer’s breast after she refused to board a bus at Renkini bus terminus was yesterday ordered to perform 410 hours of community service for indecent assault.

Godfrey Chagwiza, 34, had pleaded not guilty but was convicted by magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa.

Prosecuting, Grace Vumbukwa, said on May 8 at around 8AM, the police officer was accompanying her sister to board a bus to Zvishavane at Renkini bus terminus when Chagwiza approached them.

Vumbukwa said Chagwiza tried to persuade the pair to board a certain bus before trying to snatch their bags against their will.

“After his failed attempt to snatch their bags Chagwiza reached out and fondled the breast of a woman dressed in her police uniform,” she said.

The police officer, 33, said Chagwiza tried to steal her bags and then fondled her breasts.

“He tried to steal our bags after blocking our way and then started to fondle my breasts after we told him we did not want to board the bus he was calling for,” she said.

Magistrate Muchemwa sentenced Chagwiza to 12 months in jail.

Six months were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar crime within five years and the remaining six months were suspended on condition that performs 410 hours of community service.
