While on paper the home side are the favourites, Wisewaters’ captain Merlin Dah Bafana believes her team is ready for the battle and will certainly not be intimidated by their opponents tonight.
“We are looking forward to the match and our loss to Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) last week was due to their substandard dart boards,” said Bafana.
She said the arrival of some experienced players will add more firepower to her side, which joined the league last year.
“We only lost one player, Sikhumbuzo Mzondiwa, to Railstars, but I believe we are in fact stronger compared to last season,” she said.
Besides herself, Wilson Makhetho is another player who Bafana will also count on for positive results against the George Dube-captained Parkview Lions.
Jonis Chiduwo and his charismatic captain George Chimange will lead ZRP (Bulawayo) as they defend their base when fellow uniformed forces, Khami Prisons invade Espotini Sports Bar, the venue for the match. Last week Chimange told Chronicle Sport that they were using the league matches as part of their preparations for the upcoming Commissioner General’s Sports Gala which Bulawayo province will play host to next month.
The clash at Khami has all the ingredients of a thriller as it is more like a derby similar to that of ZRP (Bulawayo) and Fairbridge clash.
Last week, Ah-Sat were not active as their opponents pulled out of the league but today the boys are back in town with their juggernaut expected to keep on rolling. This time their burial field should be at Maisonic where they meet the debutants.
Two times champions Ah-Sat, yet to drop a point this season, travel to Main Street and Fourth Avenue for a date with Maisonic, which many call an Archers offshoot as it is mainly made up of former Archers players like Bishop Moyo, Edward Ndlovu, Jonathan Banda among others.
Another slaughter house could be at Archers Club where re-assembled Vaiton Trading-sponsored Archers welcome How Mine A.
Archers might have failed to provide a provincial player during the weekend trials but they have some of the best darts players in the province who have the potential of going all the way if properly managed.
Among the team’s good players are Tafadzwa Ncube, captain Mkhululi Dube, Martin Dube and Simon James.
Last week’s highest scorers, Railstars, who routed debutants Zimbabwe School of Mines 35-4, will tonight hope to force-land CAAZ and underline their intentions as one of the four championship contenders.
The other contenders are Bosso, who are inactive today, Ah-Sat and Archers.
Railstars captain Charles Widzisa will rally his troops as they seek a maiden championship.
Meanwhile, Ah-Sat’s Derrick Pillay says he feels devastated at failing to make it into the provincial squad. This means he will miss the Falcon College trip for the
second time in a row after missing the 2011 Heroes holidays tournament.
“I tried my level best during the trials but it just could not happen, I am so devastated,” said Pillay.
