THE Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League ends tonight with defending champions Archers needing an outright win against Old Nic Mine at home.
Archers are tied on 28 points with Railstars but have a superior dart difference and a defeat for the former will see them surrender the trophy to the latter who take on Maison Nic.
Archers, who won last season’s title without dropping a point, are wary of their opponents who spoilt their party on the last day of the 2012 season when they lost the championship to defunct Ah-Sat on the closing day.
Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda, Archers’ captain, ruled out complacency in an interview yesterday.
“The memories of losing the 2012 title are vivid and worse still we’re facing the same opponents who beat us when we wanted a win to claim the title. On that fateful day we lost to Old Nic Mine on the closing day when only a win would have guaranteed us the trophy which Ah-Sat won. Tomorrow we’ll be at home and we’ve talked with the guys that we must not underestimate our opponents and it seems we’re all sailing in the same boat,” Sibanda said.
Archers will pin their hopes on the quintet of Brian Ndlovu, Albert Tawanda, Bes Ncube, Tafadzwa Mutomba and Simeon Jones.
“As Archers Sports Club our motto is to go for everything on offer. All my players are in the right mindset to retain the championship,” he said.
The champions should be wary of Moses Ndlovu who will be key to Old Nic Mine as they plot Archers’ downfall.
Meanwhile, Railstars’ championship aspirations will be carried by winners of the Sizinda South Beer Garden doubles tournament Patrick Zimidzi and Jones Chidunu as well as Ndabezinhle Ngwenya and McLean Chirwa.
