adminboys and girls from Under-15 to Under-18, returned home on Sunday after a week in Gaborone.
The Under-15s were the biggest winners when they came home with seven silver medals. Tafadzwa Timba from Manicaland was outstanding and was hailed as a star by Zimbabwe Darts Association president Mynard Moyo.
“We had some very good games and the youngsters played as a team although I may give special mention to Timba,” said Moyo.
“In the player, we have a champion in the making. He was the driving force behind the Under-15 team. We are looking forward to nurturing him into a competitive player as he has got a lot of potential.
“If Timba can get proper training and continue to stay focused, as he did at the regional tournament, we are certain that he can go a long way. The youngster showed a lot of composure and maturity as he went all the way to the finals of the singles tournaments.
“Timba won 18 games out of the 20 he took part in.”
In the Under-15 boys’ category, Zimbabwe emerged as runners-up to regional giants South Africa.
The Under-18 boys and girls’ teams settled for fourth places as South Africa continued to dominate. Lesotho were second and hosts Botswana were third.
Moyo was impressed with the way the team played.
“Our preparations let us down as we could not take our Under-15 girls team with us,” said Moyo.
“We now look forward to establishing strong provincial clubs to have strong national teams for the future.” Moyo said.
