Date set for election of senators for people with disabilities

The election of two senators who will represent people with disabilities will be on Saturday next week by the 119 associations and institutions that represent and assist people with disabilities, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chief elections officer Mr Utloile Silaigwana has said.

General Notice 1344 of 2023 published in an extra-ordinary Government Gazette yesterday said the the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will conduct the elections for the two senators on Saturday, 26 August from 7am to 7pm at Rainbow Towers .

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi, last month listed the 119 associations and institutions that will nominate persons that will form the Electoral College to fill the Senate seats for Senators elected to represent persons with disabilities.

Minister Ziyambi prescribed the list of the associations and institutions after consultations with Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima.
