Zimbabwean gospel artiste Tatenda Mahachi is in South Africa where he is set to collaborate with Nigerian award-winning gospel artiste David Dayo. In an interview The Herald Entertainment, Mahachi said he was happy that his dream of becoming an international musician was coming true. “I have always desired to put Zimbabwean gospel music on the international map and having these international collaborations will go a long way in achieving this since my voice will also be heard in different parts of the world,” he said.
He hailed Dayo for being a humble and mature gospel artiste who is willing to work with different artistes from across Africa.
“It was such an honour working with a musician of such a calibre. He is so humble and one thing you cannot take away from him is his talent,” he said.
Meanwhile, after roping in the award-winning gospel artiste on his latest album “Declarations”, Mahachi was recently appointed as the brand ambassador for a South African community development foundation.
He is now linked to Thumu’mlilo Foundation’s new Community Upliftment Programme.
Mahachi began singing with a school music group in Karoi. His albums “Miyedzo”, “Kure” “Agare” and recently “Declarations” have been receiving fair airplay on local radio stations.
His single, “Ndibvumbamirei”, on which he collaborated with afro-jazz songstress Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana marked his breakthrough on the entertainment scene.
Since he launched his music career in early 2000s, Mahachi has shared the stage with a number of big name artistes such as Dudu Manhenga, Clare Nyakujara, Katomeni-Mbofana, Dino Mudondo, Machanic Manyeruke, Shingisai Suluma and Albert Nyathi.
