THE league’s leading goalscorer, David Temwanjira, has snubbed interest from South Africa’s National First Division teams to join ZPC Karba on a one-year contract. Temwanjira is leading the goal-scoring charts with nine goals at the halfway mark after a solid campaign at modest Premiership side Shabanie Mine.
The 25-year-old had a number of clubs, local and foreign, asking about his availability.
Last month Shabanie Mine confirmed interest from South African clubs for the centre forward but the player chose to join coach Godfrey Tamirepi’s men. The DC Academy graduate, however, justified his bizarre choice saying he was not yet ready to leave the country.
“Yes, it is true I am now with ZPC Kariba, I agreed to join them last week and today (yesterday) I met my new teammates.
“I am glad to be here and I will do my best to help the club achieve their objectives, they have trust in me and I do not want to betray their trust.
“It is true that many clubs were inquiring but as a player I had to make a choice and I think ZPC Kariba is the right place for me to develop my career and I think the atmosphere here will help me improve my game.
“Some foreign clubs made inquiries but to be honest I felt I needed to complete this year playing locally and I decided to do that with ZPC.
“I have signed a one-year contract here and hopefully if the opportunity to go abroad comes again next year, or at the end of this year, I think I will be ready to take it,” said Temwanjira.
He is the latest first-team player to leave the Premiership strugglers, Shabanie Mine.
Midfielders Tinashe Chigede and Joe Nyabinde have already left the club while Carlos Rusere is likely to leave again this month.
They have recruited Nigel Papias on a loan deal from cross-town rivals FC Platinum and they are still in negotiations with some more players.
