CHINGWERE coach Day Gutu believes there is still a lot to play for in the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League after his team moved to within seven points of leaders Blackburn Rhinos over the weekend.
There are still 14 matches before the curtain comes down on the reverting season and Gutu knows that’s a great deal of football still to be played.
Yet Chingwere kicked off their debut term in the NRSL like a house on fire, topping the standings for the greater part of the opening third, before slowly boiling off.
But they kept on putting the work and ensuring they remained within shouting distance of top contenders Black Rhinos and Harare City.
And Gutu’s charges look ready to pounce at any slip up by the two protagonists to ensure they grab promotion at the end of the campaign.
“You already know that the Northern Region Soccer League is very competitive and it’s showing from the way the log table is looking,” said Gutu.
“There are no pushovers and that is what we strongly know. It’s this fact that we are riding on because we know if we can win our own games, and Black Rhinos and Harare City can lose to anyone, there is a chance.
“That’s where we are hinging our confidence upon.
“But one thing is for certain. We have to work hard, extra hard to ensure we can win our own games.”
He added:
“That’s is the main essence. We just try to win our matches, all of them and see what happens at the end of the race.
“As we speak, we know there is still a long way to go before the season comes to an end.
“What we need to do is put in the work, every minute and every second on the pitch matter.
“We are competing for promotion with seasoned campaigners who have been to the Premier Soccer League all along like Harare City and Black Rhinos.”
The MCM Estates NRSL resumes today with several games lined up across the region.
