The District Development Fund (DDF) is pacing up the rehabilitation of roads and construction of bridges in Chikomba District, bringing relief to communities which can now easily access important institutions like schools and clinics.
ZANU PF legislator for Chikomba West Dr John Mangwiro has praised DDF for the works, saying they were in line with President Mnangagwa’s drive to improve infrastructure, especially roads to smoothen the movement of people.
Dr Mangwiro made the remarks during the tour of Kudubu Bridge, which was recently constructed by the DDF.
Permanent Secretary for DDF and Related Infrastructure Development Mr Christopher Shumba and other senior officials from his department visited Chikomba to appreciate progress on several projects being implemented in the district.
Speaking to the media after touring the bridge in Ward 7, Dr Mangwiro said its construction o had brought relief to people in his constituency.
“There are villagers who stay on both sides of this river and would not cross it especially during the rainy season once it is flooded,” he said.
“It was always difficult for people to visit their clinic or even shops when this river is flooded. I want to thank President Mnangagwa for making sure DDF is working to improve the lives of people in rural areas.
“This is commendable. As you can see, there is a bridge here and it is now easy for people to travel. Even our children will not have any challenge to go school even when the river is flooded.”
Dr Mangwiro said a good road network was key to economic development and contributes to the attainment of Vision 2030.
“Without good road network, it will be hard to realise Vision 2030. I am happy DDF is working hard in rehabilitating our roads.
“I have seen good roads here, they are constantly graded and made usable, this is commendable. My wish is for Government to release more funds so that they can continuously work to improve everyone’s living conditions, especially in the rural areas.
“I want to thank DDF for working tirelessly. Vision 2030 is achievable.”
Mr Shumba said the tour was important for him to assess progress for himself.
“My officials here have done a good job in rehabilitating roads around here. However, we need to move in quickly in repairing some bridges which are damaged before the rainy season,” said Mr Shumba.
“We will work on those bridges which need attention. President Mnangagwa is saying no place and no one should be left behind as we develop our nation. “We are doing exactly that. I want to thank the Treasury for availing funds which we are using to construct bridges and rehabilitating roads.
“We want people to be safe on these roads. We want people to access all institutions for critical services hence we continuously repair and construct bridges.”
Mr Shumba added that they do not want a scenario whereby people fail to get their farming inputs in time because of poor roads, hence the decision to accelerated roads rehabilitation.
