BRENDON de Jonge had a promising start in the Sony Open which entered the second round late yesterday evening at Waielae Country Club in Hawaii, United States.The Zimbabwean golfer was sitting on position 25th after carding a two-under-par 68 in the first round which saw him trailing the pacesetter by five shots.
The Sony Open is De Jonge’s second competitive event in 2014 season after he took part in the European and Sunshine tour sanctioned Alfred Dunhill Trophy in South Africa late last year.
Going into the second round late yesterday, the burly golfer was tied with 22 other players in a tight contest. De Jonge finished last season rated among the best putters on tour.
The US$5,6 million Sony Open tournament has a winning share of US$1.008 million and 500 FedExCup points on offer. Sang-Moon Bae was leading the field after an impressive seven-under-par 63.
