Dear parents, guardians . . .

We hope we find you well, our beloved parents and guardians.

This week has been busy for many of us students as we were writing end of semester exams.

The pressure has been unbearable but above all, we have you as our pillars of strength in all these times.

As we write this letter to you, we feel a blessing to have you parents and guardians who are patient with us.

The sacrifice you give to us is too much. You pay our fees, transport, food, clothing, and on top of that give us out of pocket allowances.

At times, the burden is unbearable to you. Each time we go for exams there is a need for exam fees which are so straining but you still sacrifice.

Even if we fail, you still stand by us. Many times, you put our names to God so that he protects and blesses us.

You spend sleepless nights, seeking God to give us wisdom as we take on our academic journey.

You go an extra mile for us, for our breakthroughs. You always desire to see us being good children whose names are emulated in society and the world.

No parent wants their children to become the laughingstock of the community. You try by all means to make sure, we score big and make you proud.

In some cases, we make you angry, you are ridiculed over our characters.

We bring shame to the family due to our mischief. We sometimes don’t attend lectures, we bunk, we don’t submit assignments on time. We at times miss exams, we fail, we attain the worst grades, we squander school fees.

We don’t sleep at home, at hostels, we get drunk, we are involved in drugs.

But dear parents, you still remain loving and caring. Your patience is amazing.

Despite whatever the circumstances, your desires are to see us prospering. You are not worried about us looking after you, but you want us to be better than yourselves.

You want us to look after our own children and ourselves.

Dear guardian, parent, your loving spirit should not go unnoticed. You always give us the warmth we need. The world is so cruel out there, when we cry, you give us a shoulder to lean on.

Back to school moments always leave you penniless, but you still buy us airtime, data bundles.

You don’t know what we do away from home, but you still tolerate us.

May God bless you, our parents, guardians. Lecturers at times reject, hate us because of our bad characters. We are sometimes chased from college, but you welcome us back home.

When we are done with our college as we await new opportunities, we stay at home, eat what you are working for every day.

You still tolerate, love, and care for us.

All these mischief we do, is not what you expect from us, it’s our own.

Most times we forget our purposes but you keep taking us back into the rail. Most of us have gone astray, some have dropped along the way but you keep encouraging us to have the never die spirit.

You look for private teachers during semester break, we go for extra lessons apart from the tuition fees.

That extra costs affect your delicious meals, you hardly enjoy your moments like the days you were lovers before us.

All these are for the sake of us, prior to the opening of schools, you have always had torrid times to balance the mathematics which will never balance.

You need rent, food, bills, clothing, among the whole lot of things but from your constrained budget, you have us in your hearts.

I just want to thank you.

Some of the things that happen at campus, you will not like to hear about them, but you still put us in the prayers for protection.

Thank you for working so, so, so hard to be able to send us to college. That means the absolute world to us, and for that, we will never be able to repay you.

There are not enough words to describe how thankful we are to you. We know we don’t show how grateful we are, but we really are. You have taught us so much, and going away to college and being apart from you has made us realise how much you mean to us.

Everything we have and everything we are, we owe it all to you. Thank you, our two lifelines.

We cannot repay you with anything for what you have done for us in all this life. But still, we are trying to repay you by saying ‘Thank You’ for everything. Love and hugs to our parents, guardians.

Thank you for all the times you held our hand, and our hearts, and everything in between. For loving us, when no part of us wanted to, and when no part of us was able to.

For seeing right through our souls, when we had no ability to do so. For listening to our hearts, for comforting it, never letting it believe it was alone.

Thank you for the invaluable advice. For accepting us , as we are, and loving every part of us. For respecting our space when we could not open our hearts to you. For being our voice, all the days we were unable to speak. For laughing with us through our joy.

Thank you for navigating both the heaviness and beauty of the world with us. For believing in us. For providing us with all we ever needed, and so much more than that. For helping us live our dreams out in the world, even if it hurts you to have us so far away.

Thank you for nourishing our souls with your words. For never giving up on us. Even when it seemed that the rest of the world did. For all the words of encouragement. For being the absolute rock that you are.

We are truly blessed to have such wonderful parents. Thank you, our guardians!

Everything we have and everything we are, we owe it all to you. Thank you, our two lifelines.

We cannot repay you with anything for what you have done for us all this life at college.

But still, we are trying to repay you by saying ‘Thank You’ for everything.

Love and hugs to our parents, guardians.
