DEATH AFTER GROWN MEN FIGHT OVER CHAIR: Trivial squabble ends in Bubi tragedy

B-Metro Reporter

A childish argument over who should sit on a chair at a Bubi drinking spot has ended in a shocking death, leaving residents stunned by the sheer pettiness of the dispute.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the incident occurred on 21 November at around 8.30PM at a leisure centre in Nkenyane.
“The two had a misunderstanding over a chair to sit on,” said Insp Msebele, highlighting how small the issue was.

The now deceased, Zibonile Mpofu (40), slapped the accused person Killon Ndlovu (45) on the cheek.
“The accused person retaliated by hitting him once on the neck with a fist,” said Insp Msebele.

Mpofu fell and smashed the back of his head on the floor. Patrons broke up the scuffle before Mpofu walked home on his own.

But the foolish fight had already taken its toll. Mpofu was later admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital where he died on 23 November.

Police arrested Ndlovu after a report was made.

Insp Msebele urged communities to avoid unnecessary violence and seek peaceful solutions.
