Defence Forces celebrations attract bumper crowd in Chinhoyi

The sound of the Zimbabwe National Army brass band filled the air, while drill displays on the parade square kept thousands of people gathered at Chinhoyi Stadium for the Defence Forces Day commemorations on the edge of their seats.

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo is leading the official proceedings, flanked by Commander Mechanised Brigade Brigadier-General Raban Nikisi and Jason Ziyapapa Moyo Air Force Base Commander Air Commodore Ellen Chiweshe.

Minister Chombo read the President’s speech after inspecting a six-detachment parade mounted by the Zimbabwe National Army and the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

The crowd was entertained by displays from the ZNA Mounted Regiment, AFZ dog displays, and drills by Inkomo Primary and Secondary Schools.

Additionally, a football match pitted Crocodile against Oden football clubs.

People interviewed commended the Defence Forces for maintaining peace and security in the country.

“We enjoy peace and security in the country through the resolve and organisation of our Defence Forces,” said Jarrell Muleno of Cold Stream in Chinhoyi.
