ZIMBABWE’S Defence Forces Team will seek to maintain their supremacy when they host counterparts from Botswana in a Defence Forces Trophy match at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

The ZDF team have ensured that they dominate over visiting sides in this competition.

Previously, the ZDF team have played against fellow forces teams from the region such as Malawi, Mozambique, Lesotho and Zambia.

Zimbabwe last featured against a visiting counterpart in 2019.

The annual trophy is part of several festivities to commemorate the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day tomorrow.

For the past two years, the Defence Forces Trophy was not staged to Covid-19 restrictions.

In 2019, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces team beat Lesotho 1-0, courtesy of Phillip Marufu’s solitary strike in a match which was played for 80 minutes instead of the usual 90 minutes having kicked off late.

Cranborne Bullets coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera will be in charge of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Select.

The coach has drawn players from his Premiership side as well as Black Rhinos. The first division teams Chapungu and Commando Bullets are also expected to contribute some of the players. The players are in camp in preparation for the game and yesterday the technical was still finalising the team that will play against Botswana.

The ZDF Trophy organising team said they are glad that they are hosting a defence forces counterpart after missing that due to Covid.
