Delta shares hit US$1bn

continues to grow on the back of massive consumption of its dominant products.
Delta, with a significant stake in spirits manufacturer and distributor African Distillers, produces popular beer brands such as Castle, Pilsener, Zambezi, Lion, Bohlinger’s, Black Label and soft drinks Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Lemon and Sparletta.
At US$1 billion, the company, owned 40 percent by SABMiller of South Africa, now constitutes almost 25 percent of the total market capitalisation of the stock exchange. Delta has invested more than US$200 million in plant and capacity upgrades since dollarisation of the economy in 2009.
The second most capitalised company on the ZSE remains the country’s biggest mobile telecommunications firm, Econet at US$815 million. The ZSE has 75 active and three suspended counters.
Market capitalisation reflects the value of a company as determined by buyers and sellers of its stock and is obtained by multiplying the ruling share price by the number of shares in issue.
A total of 4 070 941 shares changed hands on the bourse last Friday while total revenue for the day came in at US$5 936 027. The industrial index gained 1,21 points (0,80 percent) to close the week at 151,79 points.
Econet surged US20,10c to US475,10c, Innscor went up US0,70c to US72c and Seed Co gained US0,30c to US91,50c. Barclays, Edgars and NTS were US0,20c firmer at US3c, US8,80c and 3,20c respectively. Pearl rose US0,15c to US2,75c.
Zimplow eased US0,50c to US5c and Lifestyle was down US0,10c to the week at US1,10c. Week-on-week the mainstream industrial index advanced 5,79 points (3,97 percent).
