ZIMBABWEAN boxing promoter and manager Clyde Musonda of Deltaforce Boxing and MMA has combined forces with a top Zambian promoter, Kevin Situmbeko, of Grayson Boxing Academy, in a move that is set to reap fruitful rewards for local fighters.
The partnership between the two stables will see both Musonda and Situmbeko promoting local boxers such as the inaugural Zimbabwe Independence Day boxing champion Marlon ‘Flyboy’ Chemhere, Kudakwashe ‘Take Money’ Chiwandire, Tinashe ‘Chairman’ Mwadziwana and Munyaradzi Manyuchi in their quest to challenge for different continental titles.
Situmbeko, who was in the country recently as a guest at the Independence Boxing Bonanza Tournament, said the partnership with Musonda came about after he was impressed by local fighters who competed in the tournament.
“I was impressed with the quality of boxers who are here in Zimbabwe. I saw fighting during the Independence Boxing Bonanza tournament, and I had a discussion with Musonda that we can combine forces to promote Zimbabwean boxers and some of my boxers back in Zambia.
“Zimbabwean boxers have huge potential, so our goal is for them to challenge for different continental titles. After capturing them, we want them to challenge for different international titles such as World Boxing Union and World Boxing Organisation,” he said.
Musonda, who has managed and trained many local boxers, said they are working towards hosting a tournament in June with Situmbeko that will prepare their boxers to challenge for different titles.
“We are going to host another tournament that we are working on with Situmbeko in June, so this tournament will help prepare our boxers because in September, we want them to fight for different continental titles.
“Zimbabwe and Zambia should dominate boxing in Africa, and we must have champions from both our countries,” he said.
