THE Dynamos management have backed returning coach Genesis “Kaka’’ Mangombe to succeed with the club chiefs looking at the gaffer’s institutional memory to overcome the challenges of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championship marathon.
Mangombe is returning to familiar terrain that he once trudged two years ago.
The ex-Yadah and Triangle coach has been mandated with transforming the fortunes of the Harare giants who survived relegation on the last day in the 2025 season, thanks to a magical touch brought by his predecessor Kelvin Kaindu during his brief stint.
Kaindu has since left the club after accepting a more lucrative offer from ambitious Premiership newboys Hardrock.
Dynamos yesterday also confirmed the departure of former striker Takesure Chinyama who was one of the club’s assistant coaches last year.
This means Mangombe will start with a clean bench as the other assistant coach Thomas Ruzive has moved on to since replace him at Triangle.
Experienced coach Newsome Mutema has been appointed Dynamos’ first assistant coach with Britto Gwere as goalkeepers’ coach, and Thulani Munzwamba retained as fitness coach.
Former Zimbabwe international midfielder Ronald “Gidiza” Sibanda will continue in his role as the team manager.
“Genesis is still finalising the composition of his backroom staff and an announcement will be made once he completes the process,” said Dynamos in a statement.
However, indications are that an unnamed “Dynamos son” is expected to step in and fill the vacancy.
Mangombe was appointed earlier this month on a two-year contract following the departure of Kaindu.
He has since started pre-season preparations with the team, with the team now in their third week of training in Harare.
This will be Mangombe’s second stint at the Glamour Boys after he previously served as an assistant to Herbert Maruwa during the 2023 season.
Following Maruwa’s departure in August 2023, Mangombe was elevated to the position of head coach and led the club Dynamos to their first Chibuku Super Cup title and a credible third-place finish in the league that season.
Only champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and Manica Diamonds did better than DeMbare in that 2023 season.
But Mangombe’s side had an indifferent start to the 2024 term and the coach left the club mid-season, amid pressure from the supporters who felt Dynamos were punching below their weight under his guidance.
He presided over six wins, 12 draws and four defeats, leaving the team in seventh place with 30 points.
Mangombe then had stints with Scottland in their fight for promotion from the Northen Region Soccer League, before moving to Tanzania where he had a brief spell with Tabora.
He returned home to Triangle last year and was instrumental in helping the Lowveld side escape relegation.
Dynamos chairman Vincent Chawonza yesterday said the club’s management were fully behind the coach as they believed in Mangombe’s capabilities.
“I would like to welcome Coach Genesis to the biggest club in the land. I have no doubt that with his capabilities, having worked with him back in 2023; his style of play is very commendable,” said Chawonza.
“As we rebuild our club after a 2025 season which we want to quickly forget because of many reasons; one of them being staving off relegation.
“I wish Coach Genesis well in his new role and I also promise him that we will give him all support he needs. We are going to create a conducive environment for him to succeed,’’ added Chawonza.
