THE roar of engines at airports has replaced the rumble of long motorway miles as the country’s most decorated club Dynamos climb back into the sky, and with it, back to the glamour that once defined them.
After seasons spent grinding out journeys by road while also fighting relegation last year in the field of play, DeMbare are sending clear signals to their rivals.
They flew into Kariba for the Castle Lager Premiership game against ZPC Kariba set for Saturday and they are expected to connect to Hwange for the Munhumutapa Cup after that game.
Hwange will be a week long camp ahead of the clash with Southern Region League side Hwange at the Colliery.
While the focus is on winning the two matches, it has been difficult to ignore the fact that it has been long since Dynamos could afford luxury.
The last time that Dynamos got used to such routines was in 2023.
“We are grateful to our sponsor who has been behind this glory, and beyond where sometimes we are getting extras that had not been included in the contract,” Vincent Chawonza exclusively told Zimpapers Sports Hub.
“Apart from these flights, the sponsor has also been providing transport for our fans to attend our games.
“All this is a result of unity. As the executive, the only way to make it is speaking in one voice and this harmony gives our sponsor the confidence he needs.”
From Harare to Kariba and back, Dynamos would have needed at least 10 hours to cover 700 kilometres round trip.
To and from Hwange, the Harare based giants would spend more than 20-hours on the road (1240 kilometers).
Chawonza said opting for flights is part of the club’s efforts to prioritise player welfare as they seek to complete the season in respectable position.
Dynamos will also be taking part in the CAF Confederation Cup, hence they need the team to be in the best possible shape, he said.
“We have a number of competitions coming up and the right thing for us to do is to make sure that our team is always in the best shape,” he said.
“Looking at the distances that we were supposed to travel, by road it would be difficult for the players to fully rest in between.”
Dynamos received a boast in mid-season acquisitions Burundian attacking midfielder Ramela Harerimana and Ghanaian defender Desmond Obeng who travelled with the team after being cleared.
However, the Aristica Cioaba mentored side have to wait longer to welcome another club’s recent signing Godknows Dzakpasu who is expected in the country on Sunday, from Ghana.
The 29-year-old midfielder starred for the reigning Ghanaian league champions Medeama last season, and his contract with the West Africans expired on June 30. Although they were reportedly keen to renew his contract, Dzakpasu opted for the Glamour Boys.
He was rated one of the best defensive midfielders in the Ghana Premier League during the 2025/26 season, helping Medeama clinch their maiden league title.
Dzakpasu has also featured for the Tarkwa-based side in the CAF Champions League previously, and his experience is likely to help DeMbare in their CAF Confederation Cup campaign this year.
Zimpapers Sports Hub also understands that Malawian Stanely Billiat has been deregistered and loaned out to Eastern Region side Africa Mineral Ventures (AMV) FC.
The move was meant to create a slot for new signings within the foreign quota as PSL clubs are only allowed to register eight internationals.
“After getting into the market late in the off season, we learnt a lot and felt that during the midseason we have to be very calculative,” said Chawonza.
“This explains our mid-season business, we made some difficult decisions as a club so that we can restore our former glory and slowly we are getting there.”
On the pitch, results have also been coming for a side who were fighting relegation up to the last day of the 2025 season.
Currently they sit in third position in the log standings with 44 points to their name, eight behind leaders Scottland.
They are the only unbeaten side in July with a record of three wins and a draw while they also never conceded in the month.
For the impressive record, Cioaba is tipped to be the PSL July Coach of the Month while Isaac Landu may be the first defender to bag the Player of the Month accolade after collecting two Man of the Match recognitions in the month.
