HARARE giants Dynamos head into this afternoon’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash against Herentals at Rufaro under pressure to stem a damaging winless run that has been compounded by the resurgence of turmoil in the popular club’s boardroom.
DeMbare have failed to win their last three league matches and are also coming off a disappointing ZIFA Munhumutapa Challenge Cup and the Chibuku Super Cup exits inside a month.
Their poor league form has left Dynamos’ push for a top-four finish increasingly precarious.
The Glamour Boys were fifth on 47 points, just one behind Herentals, going into the 29th round of the 2026 league campaign, but face a difficult assignment against a side they have failed to beat in their last three league meetings.
The reverse fixture against the Students ended 2-2 at Rufaro.
Dynamos have been rocked by the departures of the hardworking duo of executive members — Desmond Bvute (chief executive officer) and secretary-general Devine Sena — while suspended skipper Shadreck Nyahwa has reportedly been caught up in the boardroom fallout.
Nyahwa was reportedly sanctioned last week for allegedly siding with Sena and Bvute, but his absence from today’s match is officially due to a Premier Soccer League suspension for accumulating three yellow cards.
Technical director Aristica Cioaba, who has reportedly set a top-four finish as a key target, will also have to contend with the absence of defender Collin Mujuru, who is suspended, while creative midfielder Perfect Chikwende is nursing a leg injury sustained in last weekend’s Chibuku Super Cup defeat to FC Hunters.
Cioaba declined to comment on the Nyahwa saga, insisting his focus remained on the technical side.
“For me, our captain has three yellow cards,” he said.
“He’s not in the plan for this game, and I need to find another player who can come into his position and help the team on Sunday (today) because we need a good result.”
Midfielder Telmore Pio believes Dynamos can put their troubles behind them and finish the season strongly.
“It has been long without getting a win, things are not well, but we have to fight,” he told Zimpapers Sports Hub.
“We have to motivate ourselves, we have to sacrifice ourselves.”
With six league matches remaining, Pio knows the Glamour Boys have little room for further slip-ups, particularly after their elimination from both the Chibuku Super Cup and ZIFA Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.
“We have to do well in the last six games; we have no choice because we are already out of the Chibuku Super Cup and Munhumutapa Cup,” he said.
“We have to finish strongly; we have to do it for our fans.”
Herentals arrive in better form, having won four of their last five league matches.
They will be without leading scorer Ralph Kawondera, who has already scored 12 goals this season.
Kawondera has accumulated three yellow cards and misses out on this Harare derby and a chance to extend his goal tally.
