DYNAMOS have questioned the verdict by the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee which ordered them to play the remaining minutes of their abandoned match against Chapungu with the Harare giants expected to foot their expenses. The match was abandoned after 56 minutes on June 18 after a goalpost collapsed with Dynamos leading 4-0 at Ascot. The PSL yesterday ended the anxiety over the fate of the game when they issued a brief statement directing the teams to play the remainder of the match with the scores unchanged for the outstanding 34 minutes.
But the Glamour Boys president Kenny Mubaiwa said he was finding it difficult to understand the terms of the verdict. “We respect whatever verdict the Disciplinary Committee may have come up with, but there are many things in that judgment which are not clear to us as a team.
“Of course, there is the issue of playing the remaining minutes, but we haven’t been told about the venue. Where is this match going to take place? “If it’s Ascot then it means we will have to incur double travelling and accommodation expenses. Chapungu will not have as much an expense yet as they were supposed to be held culpable in the abandonment of the match in the first place as the home team.
“We are not told about the rules of how this match is going ahead. Are we going to have the same players and referees that featured in that match or we are all going to field new teams?
“Are there going to be fans for that match? If they are coming, are they going to pay to watch the match and what will happen to the gate takings?
“Does this mean Chapungu will benefit double?
“What about the supporters who paid to watch the original match? Will they pay again to watch the remaining 34 minutes and how much?
“It’s unfortunate I haven’t seen the full judgment to determine if we can find grounds for an appeal,” said Mubaiwa.
The Dynamos executive was due to discuss the directive by the PSL Disciplinary Committee and they did not rule out the option to appeal some of the conditions of the replay.
DeMbare were leading 4-0 with goals from Denver Mukamba, Joel Epoupa Christian Ntouba and Emmanuel Mandiranga’s brace when a goalpost collapsed at Ascot.
Goalkeeper Talbert Shumba fell on the post as he tried to block a speculative shot from Dynamos forward Mandiranga.
Match commissioner Israel Mugwagwa, in consultation with referee Martin Chivandire, decided to call off the match after a stoppage of one hour and 35 minutes as workmen battled in vain to repair the goalpost.
Unfortunately, there is no universal position in the laws of the game that govern the unforeseen events of such nature.
It is the prerogative of the competition organisers to spell out how they deal with such cases, but the PSL rules and regulations were not crafted to deal with such incidents.
And after six weeks of deliberations, the league yesterday announced the match will resume from the minute it was ended.
“The abandoned match to be resumed in the 56th minute on the same score line of 4-0 in favour of Dynamos and on a date to be determined by the PSL.
“Each team shall meet its own costs in respect of the resumed match,” read the statement.
