CHAMPIONS Dynamos may have fallen behind in the title race but manager Richard Chihoro wants them to continue with their dominance over bitter city rivals CAPS United when they clash in a Harare derby on Sunday at Rufaro.
The two teams square off in a match in which CAPS United will be seeking a better finish with their aim being a top four spot while Dynamos would be hoping to collect maximum points as they feel they still have an outside chance of winning the championship. Chihoro yesterday said they had put behind a disappointing defeat in the Chibuku Super Cup final against Harare City and are looking forward to the derby.
Dynamos’ last league victory was at the end of September when they beat Chicken Inn 1-0 in Bulawayo. They went on to share spoils with Harare City in a goalless draw before they drew 1-1 with Flame Lily at Larfarge.
“We haven’t won a league match in two games so it would be a tough match and we are going all out as we are really wounded.
“We are playing very well and creating a lot of chances but we are failing to score goals. Even in the game against Flame Lily we managed to score while against Harare we later scored a consolation goal,” said Chihoro. Chihoro said they rate CAPS United highly but are looking at maintaining their dominance over the former champions.
“But we are also looking forward to continue our dominance over them and we are not ready to surrender that,” he said. The manager says they are taking this match seriously as they are still in the league race despite the fact that some people are already dismissing them.
“There are 12 points to play for and if we win all our matches and the teams ahead of us lose some of their matches, what will happen.
“But people are writing us off, but for the past four years we have been in this scenario and everyone knows what happened,” said Chihoro.
The two teams drew 1-1 in the reverse tie when CAPS United were still under the guidance of Mark Harrison.
Malawian George Nyirenda had scored first for the Green Machine before Qadr Amini equalised for Dynamos.
CAPS United have also recently gained confidence and club president Farai Jere told a Press briefing that some exciting results were going to be posted including in the derby as the former Cup Kings are feeling a sense of rejuvenation. Makepekepe would, however, have to quickly rediscover their range as they have often been wasteful in front of goal with their 1-1 home draw against Triangle at the National Sports Stadium being characterised by a glut of missed chances.
